Identifying the right customers for your business
Greater clarity about your ideal customer will allow you to have more focused and effective marketing strategies which is important for success in business.
Tips to finding your ideal customer:
- Define your product from customer’s viewpoint. Ask yourself what does the product do for your ideal customer? What problem does this product solve? How does it satisfy your customer’s needs?
- Based on the answers from above, define the ideal customer. What’s his/her age? occupation? financial situation? Life situation?
- Determine the location of your customer. Where does he/she live? Where will the product be purchased?
- Determine when your customer buys your product. What time of the day, week, month, season or year does your customer purchase the product?
- Determine the specific benefits your customer will look for when buying your product. Why would your customer buy from you instead of a competitor?
Use these questions to identify your ideal customer, i.e. who fits your answers to these questions and will thus be most likely to purchase your product immediately.
Where to find the right customers
Once you have identified who you want to target, the next step is knowing where to look for them. Perhaps you or your friends and family have good networks that can help you reach your target audience. If not, it may be useful to consider your audience’s behavior and habits online; try and follow their chain of thought to figure out where they spend the majority of their time online. Ask which platform would they be using the most. Once you have located your ideal customers it is time to drive them to your store.
How to attract customers to your online store
Attracting customers to your online store is an important part of growing your business. This involves providing the right incentives and value to your ideal audience. Here are some tips to be able to do so:
- Social Media Ad Campaign
Once you know who your ideal customer is and where to find them, you need to get your business in front of them. You can create ad-campaigns that specifically target your ideal customer who will then be more likely to click through and purchase your products. You can use Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest as platforms for your ad-campaigns.
- Using SEO
Search Engine Optimization (SEO) involves fine-tuning your website to increase its chances of ranking highly in search results for relevant keywords. Using SEO effectively can make your store more easily discoverable. Approximately one-third of all clicks go to the first organic result on Google. Thus, when customers are searching for your products, it is important to have your store as one of the top results for that search. This top position will help generate sustained traffic for your store.
- Influencer Marketing
Influencer marketing involves sponsorship partnerships with influencers to promote your product and brand. Influencers are currently thriving on social media apps and have big followings; they have solid relationships with their followers and can leverage that trust to make your product alluring and reach big groups of people.
- Exciting Content
Content marketing ranges from blog writing to exciting videos to podcasts to guides and ebooks. Releasing new and original content can help engage new audiences and can position your business as an industry leader. Consider all topics and resources related to your business that your customer will find useful and interesting.
